What to do in your garden in March

As the first signs of spring emerge, we welcome the sun with open arms.

Spring is the start of the gardeners calendar and give a real lift to everyone’s spirits. We want to help you make the most of your outdoor space so we’ve put together some ideas and tips to get your garden looking great! As lockdown eases, we want your garden to be a haven where you feel safe and can invite friends and family to relax.

  • Pots

Brighten your garden and add interest by adding different colour pots and plants that will offset them. It’s not always easy to visualise what a new pot will look like so use the labels as a guide.

  • Borders

Let loose with colour! Make your border as wide as possible and start with the taller plants at the back. Good examples include Foxglove, Socks, Lupins etc. Smaller plants can at the front and could include Scabious, Salvia, and Dianthus.

  • Creepers

Brighten up a dull wall with a beautiful creeping plant. These can include Clematis, Passion Flower and Jasmine.

  • Wallflowers

A fabulous addition to your garden. These plants are perennials that span several seasons and will make your garden smell divine.

  • Definition

Define different areas with the use of plants and furniture. A place for cooking, a place for eating, a place for relaxing, a place for vegetables… the list is endless and there are no rules! It all depends what, and how, you use your garden.

  • Herbs

These not only add interest to your garden, they also add an amazing scent!! Try Lavender, Mint, Curry Plant and Rosemary for amazing aromas.

  • Mediterranean

Give a vibe of the Med with some drought-tolerant varieties. Rosemary, Euphorbia and Sedum all add that European vibe.

  • Butterflies and Bees

Sharing your garden with nature adds an abundance of interest. A garden full of nectar-rich plants will attract butterflies and bees to your garden. Add plants such as Buddleia, Foxgloves, Hebe and Lavender.
